Trumbull Young Women's Club invites youngsters ages 5-8 to a special holiday storytime on November 21st followed by a craft session featuring a take-home decoration for the Thanksgiving table. Participants are encouraged to donate paper goods, diapers or hygiene products which will be forwarded to the local social services. NIA Nichols Kids Care Coat and Children's Book Drive on November 20th & November 21st: Nichols Kids Care, our youth based community service group, will hold a coat and children's book drive at the NIA Starkweather House on Friday, November 20th from 4:00-7:00pm and on Saturday, November 21st from 9:00am-3:00pm. The children's books and coats will be sorted and delivered to needy area schools and other agencies serving those less fortunate and in need of these items.
For the second year in a row, members of the Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching band will appear on the national broadcast of ABC’s Good Morning America (GMA) on Monday, November 23rd. Twenty students representing different sections of the band will perform live outside the GMA studio in New York City. In addition to performing, the musicians will discuss their participation in GMA’s Warm Coats & Warm Hearts coat drive.

The students have taken on this annual service project as their way of thanking the people of Trumbull for their generous support of the band throughout the year. This year’s collection will benefit the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. Donations of gently used coats, hats, scarves, and gloves may be made at various locations around Trumbull, including Town Hall, the main library, Stop and Shop, Porricelli’s, and various churches. The deadline for donations is at noon on Wednesday, November 25.

Town Hall Green Lighting & Santa's Welcome on Friday, November 27th at 5:00 p.m. at the Town Hall Gazebo, hosted by the Trumbull Center Lions Club. Santa will arrive on the Long Hill Fire Company holiday decorated fire truck, escorted by our Police Department and EMS vehicle and joined by Trumbull Center and Nichols Fire Company trucks and several other decorated vehicles. Families are invited to join for holiday songs, music and children visits with Santa at the Town Hall Green Gazebo followed by cider and donuts.
Hwang Partners With Local Leaders for “Elf” Fundraiser: State Representative Tony Hwang will be joining forces this Holiday Season with Leo Redgate, founder and president of the Community Theatre Foundation and numerous local officials to host the showing of the Will Ferrell Christmas film “Elf.” The event will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28th, 2009 at the Community Theater in downtown Fairfield. Admission to the event is a donation of a non-perishable canned food or $5 that will go to the Operation Hope Food Pantry. The cash donations will go toward the purchase of holiday gifts for children staying at the Operation Hope shelter.

Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company's Holiday Fire Truck Toy Delivery: It's that time of the year again & the LHFD is now taking orders for this coming holiday season. Personalized letters from Santa or Frosty the Snowman are available through the Trumbull Young Women’s Club. The letters are printed on holiday paper and will arrive the week before Christmas. Inside each letter is a small surprise. Different versions of the letters are available so each child can receive a different letter. Requests received by Thursday, December 3 will be postmarked "North Pole" NY. All other requests must be received by Monday, December 10 to ensure delivery before Christmas. The cost for each letter is $4.00. Proceeds benefit the club’s service projects. Request forms are available in the Children’s Room at the Trumbull Library or by e-mailing TYWC8@aol.com.

The Trumbull Young Woman’s Club is a non-profit organization made up of girls ages 9-18 who volunteer to enhance their community by participating in and sponsoring community service events throughout the year. For more information email TYWC8@aol.com.

Trumbull Library Director's Club Non-Fiction Discussion Group on Wednesday, December 2nd at 12 Noon. Bring your lunch! Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan. For this author, family is everything. She is deep within what she calls the 'Middle Place,' that sliver of time when parenthood and childhood overlap, with children, a father, and husband around her. The American Association of University Women will begin celebrating the holiday season at their Annual Brunch on Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Oronoque Country Club in Stratford. Marilyn Moore, of Trumbull, is in charge of reservations for this event. Vice President of Membership, Judy Polizzotti, of Monroe, has arranged for an International Fellow at Yale to be our guest speaker this year. Traditionally each year members bring hats, mittens and scarves for the youngsters who attend Wilbur Cross School in Bridgeport. AAUW has chosen Wilbur Cross School as one of our community projects. Members have been volunteering their time working with the students as reading volunteers, tutors and mentors on a weekly basis. Trumbull Vehicle Park Stickers which permit use of Town parks will be available for pick-up by Trumbull residents in the Town Hall Annex (5892 Main Street) Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Motor vehicle registrations must be presented at time of sticker issuance to prove Trumbull residence. The stickers are valid for a two-year period ending June 30, 2010, and are issued for use on private passenger, combination, and camper plate vehicles. Use of Town swimming areas will continue to require display of a driver's license identification with a Trumbull address. Contact the Recreation Department at 452-5060 with any questions, and to ask about obtaining park stickers for child-care providers and guests, and permits for use of local parks for picnics.
