The Trumbull Senior Center is a multi-purpose center with a board range of services and programs.

The Senior Center Transportation Department enables residents 60 years of age and older with out transportation to attend center programs such as the Salvation Army Nutrition Program (hot lunch), doctor's appointments, shopping and special town activities.

There are health services, educational and recreational programs, Medicare counseling, information and referral, travel and a daily nutrition program. Other programs include: yoga, tap dance, ballroom dance, line dance, bunko, quilting, line dance, art class, knit and crochet, scrabble, chess, billiards, duplicate bridge, canasta, chair exercise, paper cutting, tai chi, walk club, slim approach and computer lessons.

The Senior Center is fortunate to have Medicare counselors available to those seniors and family members with questions and concerns with Medicare. We also have a Notary Public on premises Monday through Friday.

Every year AARP provides free income tax assistance and quarterly there are 55 Alive Safety Driving Course, which enable seniors to receive a reduced insurance rate.

The Center offers monthly dinner dances, ice cream socials, movies and bingo games.

The Senior Center's nurse, Gail Ondy is available every Wednesday and Thursday to provide height weight and Blood Pressure Screening. She provides wheel chair exercise and wellness coffee hours with guest speakers and bingo.

The Senior Center Newsletter is published monthly and contains information concerning daily activities and services. The newsletters are mailed to senior residents upon request. Newsletters are also available at the libraries, Town Hall, Local banks and stores.

The Salvation Army provides a weekly hot lunch program. These lunches are served at the center for a nominal fee. Box lunches are also available for take home and weekends. The transportation department provides round trip to and from home to this most valuable program.

Senior Center Travel provides travel and publishes these trips in our monthly newsletter.

Social Services

Services provided to Trumbull residents by the Department of Social Services fall into three principal areas; 1. Community Outreach, 2. Information and Referral, 3. Crisis Intervention.

The out-reach caseworkers counsel senior citizens and those residents in need of assistance with financial, emotional or family problems. We meet with them in our offices or visit them in their homes as often as necessary. Home visits must be made if they are unable to physically bring themselves to our offices or are without transportation.

Our office provides assistance with applications for Title 19/medicaid, CONNPACE (Connecticut Pharmaceutical Assistance Program), Renters Rebate, Tax Relief, Energy Assistance. Medicare Counseling, Home Health Care referrals, Extended Care Planning/ Placement. Recently, the department coordinated the town wide TRIAD (senior safety program) and initiated the 911 emergency cell phone program. The Department also has an Emergency Medical Fund and food pantry (Holiday Basket Program) on premises. We also assist with those residents who become homeless through the process of eviction or other reasons.
